Hatch messages

Messages appear in the status bar at the bottom, as a notice window over the drawing (disappears by itself after a few seconds) or as a bubble at the mouse pointer. The texts are given here as the program shows them; placeholders such as pattern or n stand for the respective value.

Area not found

No closed area found · No closed area found. Please click inside a fully enclosed area.

Notice window: No closed area found. Please click inside a fully enclosed area.

Cause: No closed loop of edges lies around the clicked point. Usually the boundary is open at a corner — two end points lie further apart than the tolerance —, or a boundary edge is on a hidden layer, is dashed while the line type filter is on, or the click was outside every area.

Remedy: Zoom in on the corners and check the end points with the Endpoint snap mode; raise the tolerance slightly; show layers; switch off Only solid lines as boundary; or define the area manually.

No closed area in the visible view — bring the whole area into view or switch the option off · No closed area found in the visible view. The whole area to fill must be in view — please zoom out or switch off the option “Visible area only” in the hatch dialog.

Status bar: No closed area in the visible view — bring the whole area into view or turn the option off. Notice window: The whole area to fill must be in view — please zoom out or turn off the option „Visible area only" in the hatch dialog.

The notice window with «Visible area only (faster)» switched on
The notice window with Visible area only (faster) switched on

Cause: Visible area only (faster) is on, and part of the boundary lies outside the view.

Remedy: Zoom out until the whole area is visible, or switch the option off.

No closed area found in the viewport / No closed area found. Please click inside a fully enclosed area of the model geometry.

Notice window: Please click inside a fully enclosed area of the model geometry.

Cause: The click was inside a viewport in paper space, but neither on the sheet nor in the model is there a closed area around the point. With a manual outline from the model: the viewport no longer exists.

Remedy: Click inside a closed area of the model geometry; if in doubt, check in model space whether the area can be hatched there.

No closed area here — nothing created

Cause: When dropping the seed point with Ctrl held down, there is no closed area at the drop point.

Remedy: Drop inside a closed area.

No closed area at the new seed point — point reset

Cause: The seed point was dragged to a spot without a closed area. The hatch stays unchanged, the point jumps back.

Outside the viewport — point reset

Cause: The seed point of a through-hatch was dragged out of the viewport. The seed point of a through-hatch must stay inside the viewport.

The viewport of this through-hatch no longer exists

Cause: The viewport through which the hatch was created has been deleted. The hatch can no longer be updated or moved.

Remedy: Delete the hatch and create it anew in an existing viewport.

Area found

Hatch: searching for the boundary … / Schraffur: Linien werden berechnet …

Shown while the program works; on large drawings the boundary search may take a few seconds. No action needed.

Note

The second text Schraffur: Linien werden berechnet … appears in German in the English user interface as well (program version v3.0.31); the first one has been translated since v3.0.30.

Hatch created: pattern (n islands) / Hatch created: pattern

The hatch has been created; the brackets name the excluded islands. If the brackets are missing, no islands were found — with Exclude islands on, a hint that an expected island was not recognized (see Islands).

Hatch created in the viewport: pattern

A through-hatch has been created.

Hatch: error during boundary search / Hatch: error during calculation

Cause: An internal error in the boundary search or the pattern calculation, e.g. with unusual geometry.

Remedy: Repeat the operation, if necessary define the area manually. If the message persists, please send the drawing to support.

Manual area definition

Manual area: click boundary elements (including crossing ones) — as soon as an area closes it is filled; further loops inside become islands. Enter/“Hatch” creates it, ESC cancels

Full text: … as soon as an area closes it is colored; further inner loops become islands. Enter/“Hatch” creates, ESC cancels. Appears when switching to Manual and explains the procedure.

Manual area: n element(s) chosen — boundary not yet closed

The chosen elements do not yet form a closed loop. Click further boundary elements.

Area closed — Enter/„Hatch" creates it, more elements selectable as islands

The loop is closed and colored; the addition · n islands excluded names recognized islands. Create with Enter or choose further elements as islands.

Manual area: no element hit (n chosen)

Cause: The click was beside every boundary element (pick range 8 screen pixels).

Remedy: Click closer to the element or zoom in.

Manual area: no elements chosen yet

Enter or Hatch was pressed without an element chosen.

Manual area: no closed boundary yet — choose more (including crossing) elements

Enter was pressed, but the chosen elements do not close. Add the missing elements — elements that merely cross the boundary are allowed too.

Manual hatch created: pattern — mode stays MANUAL: next area selectable (radio "Automatic" ends)

The hatch has been created; manual mode stays active.

Manual area definition cancelled

Esc, Cancel (ESC), switching to Automatic or a tool change discarded the selection.

Seed point

Hatch seed point (bubble)

When hovering over the black square: The black square marks the starting point of the area search. Drag it into another chamber and the hatch area is re-traced there.

Move the seed point — the boundary is searched again on release

Status bar when grabbing the square. While dragging, the bubble shows Release: move the seed point here and Hold Ctrl: create a new hatch here with the same settings.

Seed point moved — hatch boundary searched again

The seed point was dropped, the area searched there anew and the hatch changed accordingly.

Hatch copied — same settings at the new spot / Through-hatch copied — same settings at the new spot

Dropped with Ctrl: the previous hatch stays, a new one with the same settings has been created at the drop point.

Settings and selection

Hatch pattern: pattern — settings apply immediately

Another pattern was chosen in the dialog; it applies to new hatches from now on.

Hatch settings saved / Point marker radius: r mm (whole drawing)

OK was pressed in the dialog.

Hatch selected — boundary highlighted; move the Z level with PageUp/PageDown

A hatch was clicked in the element list.

Through-hatch selected — not the viewport. Click the frame to select the viewport

In paper space a through-hatch filling the viewport was clicked. Select the viewport itself via its frame.

Hatch attributes adopted (pattern »pattern«, layer, opacity)

With Pick up [J], pattern, layer and opacity of a hatch were adopted as defaults for new hatches.

Cut: please select elements first (dimensions and hatches travel with their elements)Ctrl + X with a selection containing only hatches or dimensions. Hatches are cut together with their elements, not alone.
Restored from blocks: n dimensions, n hatchesWhen exploding a block, its hatches became independent hatches again.
Empty hatches (without a valid boundary)Check item in Check & clean up drawing: hatches whose boundary got lost can be removed.
Coincident hatches (same pattern and same boundary)Check item in Check & clean up drawing: hatches created twice can be removed.

The bubbles of the dialog fields (Tolerance for tangent detection …, Faster on large drawings … and others) are given field by field on the page Hatch Settings dialog.
