Group elements

Purpose#

Turns the selected elements, dimensions and hatches into a new group on the top level of the group tree.

Access#

• Right-click menu of the drawing area: “⊞ Group elements” (1).
• Tool window, section “Edit”: “⊞ Group elements” (1).
• “Groups” section: right-click on the free area → “New group from selection …” (with a selection only).
• Command search : “group”, “gruppieren”.

Procedure#

1. Select elements (click, Shift-click, rubber band). Without a prior selection the command starts the post-selection: click elements, then confirm.
2. Call the command. The floating field “Group name:” appears at the mouse with the proposal “Gruppe n”.
3. Type the name, Enter or ✓ (“Apply (Enter)”); Esc or ✕ cancels. Status bar: “Group "…" created (8 element(s), 2 dimension(s))”; hatches appear as “k hatch(es)”.

The group appears in the “Groups” section as a new row on the top level; its elements stay selected.

Rules#

• An element belongs to at most one group — if selected elements already belonged to another group, they switch.
• Dimensions whose reference elements all lie in the new group come along automatically; selected dimensions without references (static ones) too.
• Only dimensions or only hatches form a group as well (since v3.0.23).
• The group is created without subgroups; arrange it afterwards via Move into group.
• One undo step (Ctrl + Z).
