“Delete layer” dialog

The dialog opens with 🗑 in the “Layers” section for the active layer. Prerequisite: at least a second layer (“At least one layer required”).

Move elements to this layer#

Default. The list offers all other layers by number; locked ones carry 🔒, hidden ones 👁‍🗨 — both are allowed as target. Preselected is the active layer, otherwise the first. The objects keep colour, width and line style.

Delete elements together with the layer#

Removes the elements of the layer together with its hatches and the constraints. Dimensions go by the same rules as when deleting with Del: if they lie on the layer themselves and in addition if their dimensioned element is deleted with it — even when the dimension lies on the dimension layer. A parallel-distance dimension goes along as soon as its reference line is missing.

Cancel, OK#

“OK” executes. If locked or hidden elements, hatches or dimensions lie on the layer, the program asks first: “Careful — layer "…" holds: 2 locked element(s), 3 dimension(s). These objects are moved to layer "…". Continue?” (or “These objects are deleted as well.”). Status bar afterwards: “Layer "…" deleted — n object(s) moved to layer "…"” or “… — n object(s) removed”. One undo step.

What goes with the layer#

• If the layer was active, another one becomes active.
• Viewport filters (“Layers in this viewport”) lose the entry.
• If the hatch default layer pointed to it, it switches to the target layer.
• Contents of block definitions are never deleted but re-assigned to the target layer; the instances are rebuilt.
• The change acts in the open space (model or sheet).
