Line

Purpose#

Draws straight segments between two points — singly or as a continuous chain.

Access#

• Key: N.
• Ribbon: group Draw Line (1); the triangle next to it opens the related tools (bisector, perpendicular, tangents, double line …).
• Classic toolbar: button Line (3).
• Command search : Line.

Procedure#

1. Click the start point (1) — with object snap, or with K by coordinate (Coordinate entry).
2. The preview follows the mouse; the flying input field shows length L and angle ∠ (polar) or ΔX/ΔY (cartesian) — switch with the space bar.
3. Click the endpoint (2) — or type the length, Tab, type the angle, Enter.
4. The line is drawn; the tool continues at the endpoint (line chain). Esc, an empty Enter or Cancel in the right-click menu ends the chain.

A line shorter than 0.01 mm is not created. Every line is its own step for Undo.

Options#

• ORTHO (status bar): horizontal or vertical only (ORTHO).
• TRACK: alignment lines through snap points (TRACK).
• Create dimension while drawing (Settings dialog): every line receives its length dimension (Live dimensioning).
• Auto-weld: lines that start at an existing endpoint are joined to it (Auto-weld).
• Pick up attributes (J): adopt colour, width and line type of an existing element and continue drawing with them.
