Hexagon from the width across flats

Goal#

A hexagon for an M8 nut with 13 mm width across flats — the dimension given in the standard.

Steps#

1. In the Draw group start the polygon (7). The window N-Eck opens.
2. Leave Ecken (N) at 6 (1) and set Lage zum Kreis to aussen (Seite folgt Cursor) (2) — the sides then lie tangentially against the auxiliary circle.
3. Click the centre (1).
4. Type 6.5 as the radius (half the width across flats) and press Enter (2).

Result#

The hexagon measures exactly 13 mm between two opposite sides. If a corner is to point upwards, rotate it with the mouse into the desired position before clicking — or afterwards with Rotate.
