Viewport

Purpose

A viewport shows a section of the model on the sheet, at its own scale. This page describes all nine actions; the wider context is in Paper space.

Access

  • Right-click a viewport: the “Viewport” section with eight entries (Viewport menu).
  • Right-click the empty sheet: “🗔 Draw new viewport”.
  • Mouse: click selects, double-click activates, dragging moves, corner grips resize.
  • No palette command; on a sheet only.

Drawing a new viewport

  1. Right-click an empty spot on the sheet → “🗔 Draw new viewport”. The tool switches to “Select” and the status bar reports “New viewport: click the first corner on the sheet (Escape cancels)”.
  2. Click the first corner (1) — “Click the opposite corner”.
  3. Click the second corner (2). The viewport is created with the next standard scale that takes in the whole model (“Viewport created — scale 1:n”) and is selected.

Below 5 mm edge length the operation is cancelled (“Viewport too small — cancelled”). Esc or the right mouse button end it at any time (“Cancelled”).

Edit (view and scale)

The menu entry “🔎 Edit (view + scale)” or a double-click inside the viewport: the frame turns orange and the status bar reports “Model through the window: drag pans the view, mouse wheel changes the scale — double-click outside to finish”. Dragging pans the model view, the wheel changes the scale around the pointer (continuously, ±10 %). It ends with a double-click next to the viewport, Esc, or a click on a paper object.

Fit to contents

“⤢ Fit to contents” sets centre and scale so that the whole model fits into the viewport (next standard scale): “View fitted — scale 1:n”. With an empty model: “Nothing to fit”. The reference scale prompt may follow.

Viewport settings

“⚙ Viewport settings…” opens the “Viewport” dialog: scale as a pair of numbers, the lock, the printed frame with its scale note, the line type patterns, the layer and object-type filters, plus Copy and Delete (“Viewport” dialog).

Move

“✥ Move” selects the viewport (“Viewport selected — drag to move it”); the frame turns blue. Dragging places the viewport elsewhere on the sheet — the view it shows stays the same. A selected viewport can also be dragged without the menu.

Resize

“⤡ Resize (corner grips)” selects the viewport (“Viewport selected — drag a corner grip to resize”). Dragging one of the four corner grips changes width and height (10 mm minimum). The scale stays — the viewport therefore shows more or less of the model.

Lock and unlock

“🔒 Lock” freezes position, size and view (“Viewport locked”); the label gets a padlock. The menu entry then reads “🔓 Unlock”, and Edit, Move and Resize are hidden. Double-click and dragging report “Viewport is locked — right-click opens its settings”.

Copy

“⧉ Copy” creates a copy offset 10 mm to the right and down — with scale, view, frame setting and the filters, but unlocked (“Viewport copied”). The copy is selected. The same button exists in the “Viewport” dialog (“Viewport copied”).

Delete

“🗑 Delete” removes the viewport (“Viewport deleted”). Its through-hatches and through-dimensions lose their basis and are removed with it. Undo restores everything (“Viewport deleted — Undo restores it” from the dialog).
