Open a drawing and save it under a new name
Goal
Use an existing drawing as a template and file it as a new revision without changing the template.
Steps
- Ctrl + O, choose the template — or drag the file from the explorer onto the drawing area. If you no longer know the file name: file menu → 🖼 Open with preview… shows the files of the folder as tiles with image, number and title (Open with preview).
- File menu → Drawing info…: enter drawing no., title and revision, for example Z-2026-018, Lagerplatte, A (Dialog Drawing info).
- Draw the changes.
- Ctrl + Shift + S: the dialog proposes Z-2026-018_Lagerplatte_RevA.cad2d; choose the location, Save.
Result
The template stays unchanged on the disk; the new file is from now on the open file — Ctrl + S writes back to it (Chrome/Edge). The file name is shown at the left of the status bar.
Note
In Firefox and Safari every save puts a new file into the download folder; tidy up there regularly and continue with the most recent state.
