Remark

Purpose#

Pins a yellow box with an arrow to a spot in the drawing — for queries and notes during a review. The remark is a note for coordination, not a drawing annotation in the technical sense; the leader is meant for that.

Access#

• Ribbon: expand the group “Annotate”, entry “Remark” Remark (1).
• Classic toolbar: drop-down list of the “Dimension” family.
• Command search : “remark”.
• No keyboard shortcut.

Procedure#

1. Call the tool. The status bar reports “Remark: set the arrow tip (ESC ends)”.
2. 1st click: the arrow tip. If an element lies there, the remark binds to it and follows it later.
3. 2nd click: the position of the box.
4. The dialog “Remark” takes the text; “OK” sets the remark, an empty text discards it.
5. The status bar reports “Remark placed — click the next arrow tip (ESC ends)” — the tool stays active for further remarks, Esc ends it.

Editing#

A double-click on the box opens the dialog again — that is also where you change the colour of the box and hide the leader line (both since program version v3.0.45, see Remark dialog). Box and tip can be moved; if the remark is bound to an element, the tip travels with that element.

Dragging the box to size#

Up to program version v3.0.48 the box always followed the text. Since v3.0.49 you can give it a fixed size:

1. Click the remark with Select — handle squares appear at the four corners.
2. Drag a corner handle (Note: drag to resize — the text rewraps). The opposite corner stays put.
3. Release. The status bar names the size reached, for instance Note: 34.0 x 22.0 mm.

Word wrap: at a fixed width the text wraps at word boundaries; line breaks of your own are kept. A single word that is too wide on its own is broken hard — otherwise it would stand beyond the edge of the box.

Cutting off: at a fixed height only as many lines fit into the box as there is room for; the rest is cut off. That is intended when space in the drawing is tight. A small triangle at the bottom right of the box shows that something is missing, and the status bar says so on release: Note: 34.0 x 22.0 mm — text is cut off, shown by the triangle at the bottom right.

The box cannot be dragged smaller than one line of text plus margin. Back to the automatic size is only possible through the Automatic size button in the dialog — a double-click on a corner handle deliberately does not do it.

Effect#

Placing is one undo step. Remarks sit on the active layer and can be shown and hidden as a class in the panel “Layer” — and in a viewport as well.
