Merge and clean up layers

Goal#

An imported drawing left two layers for the same kind of lines; they should become one, the superfluous one should disappear.

Steps#

1. In the “Layers” section click the row of the superfluous layer a second time → “Edit Layer” dialog.
2. “⇢ Move contents …” (9). In the dialog choose the target layer under “To layer” (2).
3. If the objects should look like the target layer from now on: “Take colour, line width and line type from the target layer” (4); otherwise “keep” (3).
4. Tick “Delete the empty source layer afterwards” (5), “OK”.

Result#

The status bar reports “n object(s) moved to layer "…" — layer "…" deleted”; the layer list is one row shorter. Ctrl + Z takes the whole operation back.

Variant: delete a layer with contents#

Directly via 🗑 in the section (the layer must be active): the “Delete layer” dialog asks whether the objects move to another layer or are deleted too; if locked or hidden objects lie on it, a second question with the counts follows.
