Leader

Purpose

Draws an arrow with text: the tip points at the spot in question, the note stands at the other end — a fit, a surface or a machining instruction, for example.

Access

  • Ribbon: group “Annotate” — collapsed at 1400 pixels, the chevron opens the list, entry “Leader” Leader (2).
  • Classic toolbar: a button of its own .
  • Command search : “leader” (category Annotate).
  • No keyboard shortcut.

Procedure

  1. Call the tool.
  2. 1st click: set the arrow tip. The status bar reports “Arrow tip set — click the 2nd point (text end)”.
  3. 2nd click: define the text end.
  4. A browser prompt asks for the text; leaving it empty gives an arrow without text.
  5. The status bar reports “Leader placed”.

Settings

Arrow size, text size, filled or open arrow tip, the side of the tip and the text offset are in the panel “Properties” of the selection. The values set last serve as the default for the next leader.

Editing

A double-click on the arrow opens a browser prompt holding the current text; after “OK” the status bar reports “Leader changed”. Both end points can be dragged by their grips.

Note

As of v3.0.24 both prompts (“Hinweistext (leer = kein Text):” and “Hinweistext:”) are in German in the English interface as well.

Effect

Placing is one undo step. The arrow is created on the active layer and can be shown and hidden together with all leaders in the panel “Layer”. A DXF export produces a native LEADER object with linked text.
