Messages on layers, groups, Z levels and constraints
Messages appear in the status bar at the bottom or as a question of the browser. The texts are given here as the program shows them — some of them German in every language; placeholders such as n or Name stand for the respective value.
Layers
New layer created
Status bar after “+ New”. The layer “Layer n” is created and active. To rename: Edit Layer.
Layer "Name" updated
Status bar after “OK” in the layer editor; colour and screen width were written onto all elements of the layer.
Layer: Name / Layer mode: auto (from the object) / Layer mode: auto — the result takes the layer of the clicked object
Status bar after choosing the layer. The first two come from the drop-down of the header bar, the third — more verbose — from the row “Auto (from the object)” of the “Layers” section; both switch on the same auto mode. In auto mode new geometry is not created on the active layer but on the layer of the object that triggered the step.
At least one layer required
Status bar on 🗑 or “Delete layer” when only one layer exists. Remedy: create a second layer first.
No other layer available
Status bar on “Move layer contents” with only one layer. Copying works anyway (target “New layer”).
Careful — layer "Name" holds: … Continue?
Browser question in the “Delete layer” dialog when locked or hidden elements, hatches or dimensions lie on the layer. The sentence names the counts (“2 locked element(s), 3 hidden element(s), 1 hatch(es), 4 dimension(s)”) and the consequence (“These objects are moved to layer "…".” or “These objects are deleted as well.”). “Cancel” leaves everything as it is.
Layer "Name" deleted — n object(s) moved to layer "Target" / Layer "Name" deleted — n object(s) removed
Status bar after deleting in the Delete layer dialog. Which of the two appears depends on whether the objects were moved or deleted along with the layer. One undo step (Ctrl + Z) brings back both layer and objects.
Layer "Name" is locked. Move its contents anyway?
Question when moving out of a locked layer. It does not appear when copying — the source stays unchanged.
Target layer "Name" is locked. Move the contents there anyway? / … Copy the contents there anyway?
Question before moving or copying onto a locked layer.
n object(s) moved from layer "A" to layer "B" / n object(s) copied from layer "A" to layer "B" / n object(s) moved to layer "B" — layer "A" deleted
Status bar after “OK” in the Move / copy layer contents dialog. Elements, hatches and dimensions are counted together. After copying, the new copy is selected and the source stays unchanged. The third one appears when “Delete source layer afterwards” was ticked in the dialog: the emptied layer disappears within the same undo step.
n elements moved to layer "Name"
Status bar after “To layer” in the “Properties” panel with multiple selection.
Element is on locked layer “Name” — unlock the layer to edit
Status bar when clicking an element of a locked layer. Remedy: open the lock in the “Layers” section or 🔓 “Unlock all layers”.
Layer "Name" is locked!
Status bar on the first click of a drawing tool when the active layer is locked. The message is not about the object you clicked but about the target: nothing new is created on a locked layer. It only appears at the start of a step — a step already running is finished. Remedy: make an open layer active in the “Layers” section or in the header bar, or open the lock.
All layers shown · All layers hidden · Layer visibility inverted · All layers locked · All layers unlocked · Layer locking inverted
Status bar after the collective switches in the title row of the “Layers” section. The three eye switches act on visibility, the three lock switches on locking; both rows work without an undo step — press the switch again if needed. Locking also clears the selection: locked objects do not stay selected.
No layer matches the search
In the list when no layer contains number or name of the search. Esc clears the field.
Active layer is locked/hidden — frame and title block inserted on layer “Name”
Status bar when inserting frame and title block of a sheet while the active layer cannot be edited: the program takes the next open layer.
System layers and header bar
Dimensions visible / Dimensions hidden · Remarks visible · Hatches visible · Constraints visible · Images visible · Texts visible · Leaders visible
Status bar after clicking one of the seven system layers. The second click brings the object type back; the text ends in “visible” or “hidden” depending on the state. System layers are no substitute for layers: they hide a whole object type, no matter which layer the objects are on, and they are not stored with the drawing.
Drawing Z level: n / Active Z level: n
Status bar after “−”/“+” in the header bar or after clicking “Z n” in the “Z levels” section.
Isolate and hide
n element(s) isolated, m hidden — “Show all objects” brings them back
Status bar after “Isolate”. The session view is active; “Show all” glows blue.
n element(s) hidden — “Show all objects” brings them back
Status bar after “Hide” in the right-click menu.
n element(s) hidden — click more; ESC or right-click ends · Hidden (n in total) — ESC or right-click ends · n element(s) hidden (m in total) — ESC or right-click ends · No element inside the box — ESC or right-click ends · Hide ended
Status bar in the continuous mode of the header-bar button “Hide”; every further click or rubber band hides more. The third one reports a rubber band, the fourth a rubber band without a hit — the mode keeps running. “Hide ended” appears after Esc, after a right-click or after clicking the button again. The rubber band selects by the same rules as the selection tool: locked and invisible objects and those excluded by the selection filter stay out, and guides are never hidden.
Hide: please select elements first
Status bar when “Hide” is called without a selection; the header-bar button shows the hint as a tooltip too.
n object(s) shown again / Nothing is isolated — all objects are visible
Status bar after “Show all”.
Pick up attributes
Pick up attributes: click the element whose properties should be adopted (ESC = cancel)
Status bar after “💉 Pick up” or J; the snap mode is Free.
Attributes adopted: layer »Name« + Override (Farbe, Linientyp, Staerke) + Textstil
Status bar after clicking an element; the layer of the clicked element becomes active. The addition “+ Override (…)” only appears when the element differs from its layer in colour, line type or screen width — that deviation then also applies to new objects until it is reset through the override badge in the status bar. “+ Textstil” follows a text, “+ Pfeilstil” a leader. These additions are German in every language.
Dimension attributes adopted (driving, size, unit) · Hatch attributes adopted (pattern »Name«, layer, opacity)
Status bar after clicking a dimension or into a hatch. The bracket starts with “driving” or “driven”, followed by “, size” and the unit — both only if the clicked dimension sets them itself. What is adopted is the default for new dimensions; existing ones keep their appearance (dimension settings).
No element hit — pick up attributes cancelled / Pick up attributes cancelled
Status bar after a click into the void or after Esc.
Override reset — new objects ByLayer again (from the active layer)
Status bar after clicking the override badge in the status bar.
Selection filter: pick
Messages of the ⌖ Pick button in the Selection filter dialog. Not to be confused with Pick up attributes via J, which takes properties over for NEW objects.
Pick: click the element whose color, line type and line width should be ticked in the filter (ESC = cancel)
Picking is armed. The next click in the drawing sets the attribute check marks and does not count as a drawing point. The dialog stays open meanwhile.
Filter set to the picked element (object): color …
The first click after the dialog was opened. The previous check marks are replaced, only the values of the clicked element remain. The brackets name what was hit: object, dimension or Hatch.
Picked and added (dimension): color red, 0.35 mm
Every further click. The values are added to those already ticked — this is how you collect several colours or widths.
No element hit — picking cancelled
The click hit nothing selectable. The check marks stay unchanged; click Pick again.
Picking cancelled
After Esc. No action needed.
Attention: no object type is ticked — so nothing can be selected.
Red warning line in the dialog for as long as not a single object type is ticked. Remedy: tick at least one type or click All.
Groups
Group "Name" created (n element(s), m dimension(s))
Status bar after “Group elements”. The bracket always holds the number of elements; “m dimension(s)” and “k hatch(es)” are only added when the group contains any. Without a selection the call first starts the post-selection.
Select elements first
Status bar when a group function is called directly without a selection (e.g. “Put selection into this group” after the selection was lost). The menu entries otherwise start the post-selection.
Empty group "Name" created / Empty subgroup "Name" created in "Parent"
Status bar after “+ New” in the title row of the “Groups” section or after “New empty subgroup …” in the row menu. Before that the name field asks “Name of the new group:”. An empty group is kept until it is deleted explicitly — “Delete empty groups” removes it. If the parent group is locked, the new subgroup is locked as well.
n element(s) moved to group "Name"
Status bar after “Add to group” or “Put selection into this group”.
Selection removed from group(s) / The selection belongs to no group
Status bar after “Remove from group”.
Group "Name" selected (n elements, m dimensions · k locked/hidden skipped)
Status bar after clicking a row in the tree — including subgroups. The last part appears only if parts of the group lie on a locked or hidden layer or in a locked group; those are not selected.
Group "Name": all n object(s) locked or hidden — nothing selected
Status bar after clicking a row whose content is completely locked or hidden. Remedy: open the lock of the group or the layer, or switch the eye on. Deleting the group with ✕ still takes such objects along.
Group renamed
Status bar after the name field; an empty name is discarded.
Group name: · Name of the new group: · Name: · Enter the field — Enter confirms, ESC cancels
Label of the floating name field and the matching sentence in the status bar. “Group name:” asks when grouping, “Name of the new group:” when creating an empty group, “Name:” when renaming. The field stands still and can be clicked: Enter or the tick confirm, Esc or the cross cancel. The same field also serves for block, standard-part and group names (blocks).
Group "Name" moved into "Target" / Group "Name" moved to the top level / Group "Name" placed before "Target" / Group "Name" placed after "Target"
Status bar after the picker “Move into group …” or after drag & drop in the tree. The first two change the membership (the group becomes a subgroup of “Target” or moves to the top level), the last two only the order under the same parent — while dragging, a line between two rows shows that the group will be placed rather than moved. Visibility and locking are inherited from the new parent.
A group cannot be moved into itself or into one of its subgroups
Status bar when trying to put a group into its own subtree. Remedy: choose another target.
No other group available as target
Status bar on “Move into group …” when only this one group exists.
Group "Name" is attached to the mouse — click places the copy / Group "Name" with n subgroup(s) is attached to the mouse — click places the copy
Status bar after “Copy group”. Esc cancels placing.
The group is empty
Status bar on “Copy group” of a group that holds nothing copyable in its whole subtree. A group of only dimensions or hatches, by contrast, can be copied as long as the dimensions manage without a reference (Dimensions and hatches alone); if nothing is left, the status bar reports Nothing copied.
Grouping "Name" dissolved — the elements are kept
Status bar after ⊟.
Delete group "Name" and its n object(s)? (Undo possible with Ctrl+Z)
Browser question on ✕ for a group without subgroups; with subgroups the picker appears instead.
Group "Name" deleted / Group "Name" deleted with n subgroup(s) and m element(s)
Status bar after deleting.
Group "Name": will be printed / Group "Name": will NOT be printed
Status bar after 🖨 in the group row. The switch only affects the output — on screen the group stays visible. It has no undo step but is stored with the drawing (printing).
Group "Name" shown / Group "Name" hidden / Group "Name" locked / Group "Name" unlocked
Status bar after eye and lock of the group row. Both cascade to all subgroups. Locking also takes the affected objects out of the selection.
Element belongs to a locked group — unlock the group to edit
Status bar when clicking an element of a locked group. Remedy: open the lock of the group (or its parent).
All groups shown · All groups hidden · Group visibility inverted · All groups locked · All groups unlocked · Group locking inverted · No groups
Status bar after the collective switches in the title row of the “Groups” section; “No groups” when the drawing has none. Unlike the layer switches these create one undo step: Ctrl + Z takes the whole action back at once.
n empty group(s) deleted / No empty groups
Status bar after “Delete empty groups (n)” in the area menu. Empty means: no own elements, dimensions and hatches and all subgroups empty as well — a container holding only empty subgroups counts as empty itself. The finding “Empty groups” of the drawing check uses the same rule.
No group matches the search
In the list when the live search finds nothing.
Slot / arc slot drawn — group “Name” · Coordinate table placed — new group "Name"
Status bar of drawing steps that store their elements as a group by themselves.
“Properties” panel
n elements: width w · n elements: color changed · n elements: line style Name · n elements: line style from layer
Status bar after the fields “Width”, “Colour” and “Line style” in the Properties panel with multiple selection. The change acts on the selected elements only and creates one undo step per field. If the field reads “— mixed —”, nothing happens; an empty line style means “from layer”.
No selection — properties not available
Status bar when the floating “Properties” window is opened without a selection. In the right-click menu the entry does not even appear without a selection; the message is the fallback for the call through the command search. Remedy: select at least one object first.
Z levels
Brought to front (n objects) · One level up (n objects) · One level down (n objects) · Sent to back (n objects)
Status bar after the four stack commands. Without a selection nothing happens and no message appears.
n dimensions/GD&T moved to the lowest Z level (z) / Everything is already on the lowest Z level (z)
Status bar after Dimensions to back.
Image Z level: n
Status bar after the Z buttons in the “Image properties” dialog.
Schraffur selektiert — Umrandung hervorgehoben; Z-Ebene mit PageUp/PageDown verschieben
Status bar after clicking a hatch (German in every language): the hatch is selected, its outline highlighted; PgUp/PgDn move its Z level.
Constraints
Experimental status: constraints are an experimental function group (Constraints).
Constraint: type / Constraint: type applied
Status bar after the last click of a constraint; the type appears with its internal name (horizontal, vertical, parallel, perpendicular, equal, tangent, collinear, concentric, fixed, intersection). The short form “Constraint: type” appears for the constraints that need one element (Horizontal, Vertical, Fixed), the longer one after the final pick with two or three elements. The solver then recalculates the geometry.
Coincident: points joined / Coincident: the point lies on the element
Status bar after “Coincident” — point-to-point or point-on-element.
Choose the 2nd element for type... / Choose element n for type...
Status bar between the clicks of a constraint. The first appears with two elements after the first click, the second with “Point on intersection” and counts up to the third element. The element already picked stays highlighted; Esc cancels.
⚠ Click a point first (the “Point” tool places them)
Status bar on the first click of “Point on intersection” when no point element was hit. This constraint requires a real point as its first pick — endpoints or snap points of other elements do not count. Remedy: place a point with Point first, then call the constraint again.
Abstand zwischen parallelen Linien:
Browser input window after “Parallel” with the current distance as proposal (German in every language: “distance between parallel lines”). A value shifts the second line to that distance; empty or “Cancel” leaves it.
⚠ No elements · ⚠ Elements A and B must be different
Status bar when the clicks hit no element or the same element twice.
⚠ This constraint already exists on the element / ⚠ The same constraint already exists on this pair
Status bar on a duplicate constraint. Remedy: check the existing one in the “Constraints” section.
⚠ The line is already horizontal — it cannot also be vertical / ⚠ The line is already vertical — it cannot also be horizontal
Status bar on a contradicting alignment. Remedy: delete the existing constraint.
⚠ Conflict: the lines are already perpendicular — cannot be collinear · ⚠ Conflict: the lines are already perpendicular to each other · ⚠ Conflict: one line is horizontal, the other vertical — cannot become parallel · ⚠ Conflict: both lines are horizontal — cannot become perpendicular
Status bar when a new constraint contradicts an existing one. The second one is about the pair itself: the same two lines already carry “parallel” or “perpendicular”, which rules out the opposite. The third and fourth arise when both lines are already fixed to an axis by “Horizontal” or “Vertical”: a horizontal and a vertical line cannot become parallel, and two horizontal ones cannot become perpendicular. Remedy: delete the contradicting constraint in the “Constraints” section, then set the new one.
⚠ Concentric needs two circles or arcs · ⚠ Tangent needs a circle/arc + line, or two circles
Status bar on wrong element types.
⚠ Exactly 3 elements needed: point, A, B · ⚠ The 1st element must be a point · ⚠ A and B must be a line / circle / arc / polyline · ⚠ The elements do not intersect even when extended (parallel lines?)
Status bar on “Point on intersection”: order and types of the three clicks, or A and B have no intersection.
Constraint deleted
Status bar after the mini menu “Delete constraint” at the symbol.
Constraints visible / hidden
Status bar after the system layer “Constraints”.
Notice hidden — constraints remain experimental.
Status bar after “don't show again ✕” in the pill; the mark in the tooltip stays.
Guides
Guide (w°): click points one after another — Esc finishes / Guide (w°) placed — place the next one or Esc finishes
Status bar after “+ Place” and after every click. The angle comes from the field next to the button and can be changed while placing — the preview follows immediately. Guides are infinitely long, are not printed and not exported.
Guides shown / Guides hidden
Status bar after the eye in the title row of the Guides section. Hidden guides are kept but taken out of selection and snapping until the eye brings them back.
All guides deleted
Status bar after “Delete all guides”.
Line types
Line type settings applied — the pattern values apply to new objects
Status bar after “Apply” in the “Line types” dialog.
n object(s): line type pattern values applied / No special line type objects in the selection
Status bar after “Apply to selection” in the Line types dialog. Only the pattern values of the special types (barrier line, grid, glue line) are applied; the line width of the objects is left untouched. The second one appears when no object in the selection carries a special type — ordinary line types such as “solid” or “dashed” have no pattern values. For colour, width and line style of a multiple selection see the “Properties” panel.
Note: with this edge thickness no window remains at width … mm — … / Note: the window is only … mm high at width … mm — … / Note: the tooth (… mm) is wider than the period (… mm) — …
Yellow note line below the preview in the “Line types” dialog. Remedy: adjust edge thickness, minimum band width or tooth dimensions (Preview).
Viewport scale 1:n: set the model reference scale for line type patterns to 1:n as well?
Browser question when creating a viewport. “OK” adopts the viewport scale as reference scale so that the model shows the same patterns as the viewport; the viewport image itself stays unchanged.
