Insert image
Purpose
Places an image file (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP) into the drawing — as a template to trace, as a background for a plan or for documentation. The image is an element of its own with position, size, rotation and transparency.
Access
- Ribbon: group “File”, button Image (3).
- Classic toolbar: group “File & import/export” — in the overflow menu “☰” at a window width of 1400 pixels.
- Command search : “image” (category File).
- An image can also be dragged onto the drawing area or pasted with Ctrl + V from the clipboard; it then hangs on the pointer and a click places it.

Procedure
- Call the command — the browser file dialog opens.
- Choose the image. It appears in the middle of the visible section, about half the size of the window, at 50 % opacity and right at the back of the Z order.
- The status bar reports “Image inserted: name (w×_h_px)”.
- Establish the scale: measure a known distance in the image with the Measure tool and enter the measured and the effective value under “Calibration” in the dialog “Image properties”.

Editing
A double-click on the image opens the dialog “Image properties” with transparency, angle, width/height, position, lock, layer, Z level and calibration. With the lock set, the image stays untouched while you draw.
Tip
The template belongs on a layer of its own that is switched off for printing — that way it stays visible while tracing and still does not appear on the plan.
Effect
Inserting is one undo step. Images are stored with the drawing file but are exported neither to DXF nor to SVG and do not appear in the SVG export.
