Copy layer contents
Purpose
Places copies of all elements, hatches and accompanying dimensions of a layer in place on another layer — or on a new layer with the same properties as the source (“New layer (copy of …)”). Typical for variants (finished part and blank) or for a backup copy of a level.
Access
- “Edit Layer” dialog: button “⧉ Copy contents …” (10).
- Command search : “Layer-Inhalt kopieren”, “duplicate” (the entry is labelled in German).
Procedure
- The “Copy layer contents” dialog names the contents (“Copy contents of layer "…" (no. n). It holds: …”).
- To layer: default is “➕ New layer (copy of "…")” — it gets colour, line type, widths and pattern values of the source and the name “… (Kopie)”, with a counter if the name exists. Alternatively an existing layer (locked with 🔒, hidden with 👁🗨).
- Appearance: keep colour and width or take colour, width and line type from the target.
- “OK”. A locked target is confirmed (“Target layer "…" is locked. Copy the contents there anyway?”); the source may be locked — it is not changed. Status bar: “n object(s) copied from layer "…" to layer "…"”. The copies are selected afterwards.

The copy uses the same core as Ctrl + C / Ctrl + V: fresh identifiers, constraints, welds, block references and bindings come along. Hatches of other layers that would only be caught via the outline of the selection are discarded; a layer holding only hatches is cloned hatch by hatch.
Options
- Copy mode needs no second layer — with the target “New layer” it works with a single layer too.
- The selected copies can be moved, rotated or put on another Z level right away (Stack).
