Split off as variant
Purpose
Copies the definition of the selected instances under a new name, attaches the selected instances to the copy and opens it in the block editor. The instances not selected keep the old definition. Context: Variants.
Access
- Right-click on selected instances → 🧬 Split off as variant (3 in the picture at Edit block).
- Command search : type variant.
The command has no button in the ribbon or the classic toolbar; the block commands live in the section Blocks of the panel on the right, in the right-click menu and in the command search.
Procedure
- Select one or more instances — but not all of the same block.
- Start the command. The program creates Name (2) (the next free number), re-attaches the instances and opens the block editor with the copy. Status line: n instances → new variant “Name (2)” — editor opened, the change affects only these.
- Change and save.
If instances of different blocks are selected, one variant per source block is created; the editor does not open then (n new variants created (one per source block)).
Rules
- If all instances of a block are selected there is nothing to split off: Name: all instances selected — make the change directly in the definition (double-click).
- The copy is a complete definition with dimensions, hatches and sub-blocks; its version starts at 0.
- BOM data: the article number receives the suffix -2, the designation (2) — the variant counts as its own item (Article number as key). Adjust the data after splitting.
- Without a selected instance: No block instances selected.
Keys
No shortcut. In the opened editor its keys apply.
