“Guides” section

Guides are infinite construction lines through a point at an angle. They appear on screen only — never in print, DXF or SVG — but are snapped and saved with the drawing. The section is the fourth in the factory order.

Fields#

👁 Shown / 🚫 Hidden#

Switches all guides on screen on or off. Hidden guides are not snapped.

Angle#

Angle of the next guide in degrees: 0 = horizontal, 90 = vertical, other values free. Changing it while placing rotates the preview along.

+ Place#

Starts the tool “Guide”: every click in the drawing places a guide through the clicked point (with object snap) — status bar “Guide (45°): click points one after another — Esc finishes”, after each click “Guide (45°) placed — place the next one or Esc finishes”. Esc finishes.

Count and delete#

“Guides: n” and in brackets the number of selected ones. Single guides are deleted with the tool “Select”: click the guide, then Del (as the section says: “Delete via „Select": click the guide, then Del.”). “Delete all guides” removes all (“All guides deleted”).

Snapping to guides#

Guides are hit by the snap Element (and by the automatic snap as nearest point), as are their intersections with each other and with elements (Snap mode). They thus serve as a ruler for alignments — object snap tracking (SPUR) does something similar without a permanent line.
