Messages about blocks, parts lists and standard parts

Messages appear in the status line at the bottom, as a question of the browser or as red text in the window Block manager. The texts are given as the program shows them; placeholders such as Name or n stand for the respective value.

Creating and placing blocks#

First select the elements of the block#

The command Create block from selection was run without a selection. Normally the command switches to post-selection first; if the message appears, select elements and call it again.

No valid geometry for the block#

The selection contained nothing that can be taken into a block. Select lines, circles, arcs, texts, images or instances.

Block "Name" created — n element(s) · n dimensions · n hatches#

Confirmation. The addition with dimensions and hatches appears only if some were taken over.

Block name:#

Label of the floating name field after “Create block”. “Block n” is proposed; Enter or the tick confirm, Esc cancels.

Block "Name": a click places it (multiple times) · R=rotate · H/V=mirror · +/−=scale · ESC/right-click finishes#

An instance hangs at the mouse (Inserting instances).

Block placed (n×) — keep clicking or ESC to finish#

An instance has been placed; the tool stays active.

Block not found / Target block not found#

The definition no longer exists (e.g. after undo). Check the list in the panel. Target block not found is reported by Replace block when the chosen replacement has disappeared in the meantime.

A block cannot contain itself#

In the block editor you tried to insert the block currently being edited. Choose another block or save the editor first.

Block editor#

Block editor: „Name" — edit the geometry with all tools, then Save or Cancel#

The editor is open (Edit block).

Edit block or Block BOM was called without a selected instance. Select an instance, then call again.

Could not open the block editor#

Internal error while building the editor. Save the drawing and reload the page.

Variants and replacing#

No block instances selected#

Split off as variant or Replace with another block without a selected instance. Select instances.

“Name”: all instances selected — make the change directly in the definition (double-click)#

A variant would make no sense because no instance with the old definition would remain. Edit the block directly.

n instances → new variant “Name (2)” — editor opened, the change affects only these#

n new variants created (one per source block)#

Instances of several blocks were selected; one variant per block was created, no editor.

No other block available as target#

The drawing has only this one definition. Create or load another block first.

Nothing to replace (instances already reference the target block)#

The chosen target block is already the definition of all selected instances.

n instances replaced → “Name” / Cannot replace: would create a cycle (block)#

Confirmation.

Name now unused (clean up in the block manager)#

After replacing, the old definition has no instance any more. It remains; Clean up in the Block manager removes it.

“Name” also occurs in … — replace there as well?#

Question when replacing from the Block manager: OK exchanges the block also inside the named assemblies.

Base point and angle while placing#

These messages apply equally when placing blocks, standard parts and copied groups.

Click the new insertion point on the orange preview · B or ESC cancels#

Status bar after B while placing. The next click on the orange preview decides at which point the part hangs on the mouse.

Insertion point reset — the preview now hangs at this point / Base point selection cancelled#

Status bar after the click, or after B or Esc. The new insertion point applies to this placement only; the block definition stays unchanged.

No snap point on the preview — move closer to a corner/midpoint#

Status bar when the click hit no snap point of the preview. Only the preview’s own snap points can be chosen — corners, midpoints, centres. Remedy: move closer to such a point.

Measure angle (auto snap): click the first point · ESC cancels#

Status bar after the angle button in the placement field. For the duration of the measurement the tool switches the snap to automatic and restores it afterwards. What is measured is the angle by which the part is placed.

Measure angle: click the second point (direction)#

The first point is set; the second gives the direction.

Too close to the first point — click the second point a bit further away#

Two almost identical points give no direction. Remedy: click further away.

Angle adopted: a° — preview aligned / Angle measurement cancelled — the previous angle remains#

Status bar after the second point or after Esc. The rounded value is shown; the exact one is used for the rotation.

Block manager#

Please select a block in the list first.#

The file could not be written; the addition names the browser's reason. The Export button in the block manager reports the same briefly as Export failed.

The chosen file does not carry the identifier liberodraft-block. Standard part files are wrong here — use Insert local standard part for them.

Block import error: …#

The file is not readable JSON.

Number is live from the BOM — for free text, attach the balloon to a non-block element#

Double-click on a balloon on a block instance: the number cannot be changed. For your own text place a free balloon.

Standard parts#

No standard parts found (folder normteile/ on the server)#

The folder normteile/ is missing or empty, or the program runs without a server. Set up the library on the server or press ⟳.

Standard parts: 3 name(s) were not stored in UTF-8 and were re-encoded for display — please repeat the upload in UTF-8#

Cause: File and folder names arrive from the disk as raw bytes. Anyone uploading standard parts from Windows by FTP may have umlauts stored in Windows-1252 instead of UTF-8 on the server, depending on the client. Up to program version v3.0.36 the server then refused any answer and the list stayed empty; since v3.0.37 invalid bytes are replaced, the library appears, and this message names the number of affected names.

Remedy: Upload the affected files and folders again in UTF-8 — set the character set of the FTP client to UTF-8. The re-encoded names are only a stopgap for the display.
