Messages when modifying

The modification tools report in the status line at the bottom: at every step what is expected next, finally what was changed, and in case of an error why nothing happened. The texts are given here as the program shows them; placeholders such as n, x or d stand for the respective value.

Post-selection

Mirror: choose elements — Enter or right-click accepts, ESC cancels / Command: choose dimensions — Enter or right-click accepts, ESC cancels

The tool was started without a selection (post-selection); instead of Mirror the respective command is named. For tools that also take dimensions: …: choose dimensions — …. Choose elements, then Enter, right-click or Accept.

Please choose at least one element — ESC cancels / Please choose at least one dimension — ESC cancels

Accept without a chosen object. Remedy: click at least one element.

Mirror cancelled

The post-selection was ended with Esc or Cancel; nothing was changed.

Mirror: click the first point of the mirror axis

After accepting, the status line names the tool's next click: Rotate: click the pivot, Move: click the start point, Copy: click the start point, Scale: click the base point..., Array (rectangular): click in the drawing area to open the input fields, Array (polar): click the centre — then enter count and angle.

Trim, Break, Split

Line trimmed · Circle trimmed · Arc trimmed · Spline trimmed · Ellipse trimmed · Elliptical arc trimmed

Trim is done; the clicked piece stayed, the rest beyond the intersection is gone. Arc trimmed also appears after breaking an arc.

No element under the cursor

The click hit no element. Remedy: click closer to the element; hidden or locked layers are not hit.

No intersections found

The element is not crossed by any other — there is no position to shorten at. Remedy: draw a crossing line or use Trim one element with a reference, Break for an end piece or Split at a free position.

At least 2 intersections needed

A circle or an ellipse needs two intersections so that an arc can remain.

No intersections on the arc · No valid intersections · Trimming left no remainder

The found intersections do not lie on the drawn arc piece, or shortening would leave nothing. Remedy: click elsewhere or use Break.

Trim: type not supported · Break: type not supported · Split: type not supported

Texts, images, points, leaders and block instances cannot be trimmed, broken or split. Explode rectangles first.

Closed spline: please split it first (W)

Trim and Break need an open spline. Remedy: Split opens the closed spline at the click position. The key hint (W) in the message is outdated — W is the window zoom, Split has no key (program version v3.0.24).

Line broken · Circle broken · Spline broken · Ellipse broken · Elliptical arc broken · Whole element broken away (deleted)

Break has removed the clicked piece.

Line chosen — click the split position (ESC = cancel)

First click of Split: the element is chosen, the next click splits. Instead of Line the element type is named.

Circle: click the second split position (ESC = cancel) · Ellipse: click the second split position (ESC = cancel)

Closed elements need two split positions.

Line split at (x, y) → 2 pieces · Polyline split at (x, y) → 2 pieces · Spline split at (x, y) → 2 pieces · Arc split at (x, y) → 2 pieces · Elliptical arc split → 2 pieces · Circle split into 2 arcs @ x, y · Ellipse split into 2 arcs · Closed spline opened at (x, y)

Done; likewise Arc split …, Polyline split …, Spline split …, Circle split into 2 arcs @ x, y, Ellipse split into 2 arcs, Elliptical arc split → 2 pieces, Closed spline opened at (x, y).

No splittable element under the cursor · No segment hit

The click hit no splittable element or, for a polyline, no segment. Remedy: click closer to the element.

Rectangles cannot be split — explode them into lines first

Remedy: Explode, then split the line.

The split position lies on an endpoint — not split · The split position lies on an arc end — not split · The split position lies on a corner — not split

At the end of an element or at a polyline corner no second piece results. Remedy: click within the element.

Both points identical — cancelled · 2nd point too far from the circle — cancelled · 2nd point too far from the ellipse — cancelled · Split failed

The second split position of a circle or an ellipse was invalid. Remedy: click both positions on the element and apart from each other.

Trim one / two elements

Trim one element: click the reference element (stays unchanged)

Second step of Trim one element.

Trim two elements: click the 2nd element (on the side to keep)

Second step of Trim two elements.

No element at the click point (line/arc) · No reference element at the click point · No second element at the click point

The click hit no line and no arc. Remedy: click closer; only lines and arcs are allowed.

Circles: split first, then modify the arc · Circles: split first, then form the corner with the arc · Split circles first (split tool), then form the corner with the arc · The first element must not be a closed circle (split it first)

A full circle has no ends to extend or shorten. Remedy: split the circle and continue with the arc.

Please choose two different elements

Tooltip at the click point when both clicks hit the same element. The tool needs two different elements to build their intersection.

The elements do not intersect (not even extended)

Tooltip at the click point: the two elements have no common point — not even when extended beyond their ends (for example two parallel lines, or arcs whose circles do not touch). Remedy: choose another pair of elements or align the geometry first.

Both elements joined at the intersection / 1st element modified to the intersection

Status bar after the second click. The first comes from “Trim two elements” — both are shortened or extended to the intersection; the second from “Trim one element”, where only the element clicked first is changed and the second stays unchanged as a reference. What counts is the side you clicked on: that piece is kept.

Could not trim/extend

Status bar when the intersection was found but could not be applied to at least one element (for instance because it lies outside the valid range of an arc). Nothing is changed; no undo step is needed.

Move, Copy, Rotate, Mirror, Scale

Click the target point — or enter dX/dY + Enter

After the base point of Move.

Moved by (dx, dy)

Done.

No displacement — click again

Target point equals base point. Remedy: click another target point or type dX/dY.

Click the target point — multiple times possible · ESC = end

After the base point of Copy.

n copied (k x) , m hatch(es), k constraints · another target point or ESC

A copy is placed; the bracket counts the copies, the suffix names copied hatches, constraints and welds. Further click = next copy, Esc finishes.

2nd point of the mirror axis...

First axis point of Mirror set.

Rotation point set — set the angle with the mouse or enter it + Enter

First step of Rotate is done.

Rotated by a°

Done.

Angle too small

The click was on the pivot. Remedy: click farther from the pivot or type the angle.

Enter the factor or drag the mouse, click/Enter confirms...

Base point of Scale set.

Scaled: factor f (n elements)

Done.

The factor must be > 0

Zero or negative factors are not allowed.

Arrays

Array (rectangular): enter rows × columns × dX × dY → Enter

The field of the rectangular array is open.

Array r×c: n element copies created

Done.

Array: at least 2 rows or 2 columns

Z = 1 and S = 1 would give no copy. Remedy: increase one of the two values.

Array: nothing to copy · Polar array: nothing to copy

The selection contains no copyable element (e.g. dimensions only). Remedy: include elements.

Polar array: enter count + angle → Enter

Centre of the polar array set.

Polar array: n element copies around (x, y)

Done.

Polar array: at least 2 elements

N = 1 would give no copy; N includes the original.

Offset

Offset: mouse = side + distance · enter D for an exact value

Element chosen; determine side and distance (Offset).

Offset: mouse = side + distance · enter D for an exact value · Tab + Space = result type

The same instruction for an ellipse or a spline: there the floating field also carries the button for the result type, reached with Tab and stepped on with Space or Enter.

Offset result: Polyline · Offset result: ∽ Spline · Offset result: ≈ Ellipse

Confirmation after each step of the toggle (Space or Enter on the button); the preview already shows the chosen type.

Offset created (D=d)

Done. For ellipse and spline a suffix may follow:

  • · approximation: deviation up to x.xx mm — the result is an approximating ellipse; the number is the largest measured deviation from the nominal distance. Remedy, if too large: choose the result type polyline or spline.
  • · spline not possible (sharp corners) — polyline — the inner offset was so large that the parallel curve had to be clipped; a polyline was created instead of the requested spline. Remedy: choose a smaller distance or the outside.

No offsettable element at the click point (line/circle/arc/rectangle/polyline/spline/ellipse)

Texts, images, points and block instances have no offset. Remedy: click a permitted element.

Offset distance too small — move the mouse further away or enter a value

The click was directly on the element. Remedy: click farther away or type D.

Offset not possible (distance too large or too small)

Inwards, the radius would be negative or the rectangle would vanish. Remedy: choose a smaller distance or the outside.

CAM offset

CAM offset: click an element · mouse = side and distance · ESC = cancel

Start of the CAM offset; the window is open.

CAM offset: n elements selected (closed) · create in the dialog or right-click · ESC = cancel

The contour is tracked; (closed) appears for a closed chain. Create or adjust the distance.

CAM offset: junction — click the continuation (n options)

Several elements meet at an endpoint. Remedy: click the element with which the contour continues.

CAM offset: no contour element at the click point (line/arc/circle/ellipse/polyline/spline/rectangle) · CAM offset: no contour element at the clicked point

The click hit no permitted element. Contour elements are lines, arcs, circles, ellipses and elliptical arcs, polylines, splines and rectangles; texts, dimensions, hatches and block instances do not belong to the contour.

CAM offset: preview paused — overwrite the value or create · double-click the field = live again

A click into empty space paused the live preview; the distance is highlighted in the field.

CAM offset: enter the distance or create · double-click the field = continue selecting

After pausing, the drawing area accepts no further elements. Remedy: type a value and create, or double-click the field to continue selecting.

CAM offset measure: click the first point · CAM offset measure: click the second point · CAM offset: distance d measured · CAM offset: measured distance is zero

Procedure of the button 📏 in the window; two identical points are discarded.

CAM offset: n element(s) created, distance d

The path lies in the drawing. All deposited objects are counted — lines and arcs, a circle for a full round, and with the check box Smooth curves as spline one spline per smooth run (Result).

CAM offset: no valid path — the offset is too large for this contour

Inwards, no path remains at this distance. Remedy: choose a smaller distance or the outside.

CAM offset: select geometry first

Status bar after “Create” in the dialog while no contour element has been clicked yet. Remedy: select the contour on the drawing area first, then create.

CAM offset: distance too small — move the mouse further away or enter a value

Status bar after “Create” when neither the field holds a value greater than zero nor the mouse gives a usable distance. Remedy: move the mouse further away from the contour or type the distance into the field.

CAM offset: distance follows the mouse again · elements selectable again

Status bar after a double-click into the distance field of the dialog. A value typed by hand pauses the preview (preview paused); the double-click releases it again and unlocks the element selection.

CAM offset works in model space only

Status bar when the tool is called on a sheet of the paper space. The program switches back to “Select”. The CAM offset creates paths on the real geometry and would make no sense on a sheet. Remedy: switch to the “Model” tab.

Click an element · n elements · Measure distance: click two points · Junction: click the continuation

The info line inside the dialog of the CAM offset (not in the status bar). It states what the tool expects: no element chosen yet, the number of chain links — with the suffix “· closed” when the contour forms a ring —, the running distance measurement or an open junction.

n elements · enter the distance or create

The same info line after a distance was typed by hand: the preview is paused and the element selection locked. A double-click into the field releases both (distance follows the mouse again).

CAM offset cancelled

Esc, Cancel or ×; the tool switches to Select.

Stretch

Stretch window: click the 2nd corner — points inside the window get stretched

First corner of Stretch set.

n element(s) captured — click the base point (with snap)

The window contains stretchable points.

No stretchable points in the window — drag a new window (n not stretchable)

No point in the window can be stretched; the bracket counts skipped elements (arcs with one end in the window, single rectangle corners). Remedy: drag the window anew so that endpoints or whole elements lie inside (rules).

Click the target point · dX/dY + Enter · or “↗ direction” for slanted geometry

Base point set.

Direction adopted — enter the distance + Enter, or click (the mouse determines the side) · ESC = cancel

After ↗ Direction and the click on a line: only the distance along this direction counts.

Direction via line: click a line that defines the stretch direction · ESC = cancel

Status bar after the “↗ Direction” button in the stretch field. The dX/dY field closes so that the next click chooses the direction line; after that a single amount is enough instead of two coordinates (Stretch).

No line hit — click a line that defines the direction · ESC = cancel

Remedy: click a line (arcs and circles give no direction).

Stretched: n element(s) · k not stretchable, skipped · driving dimensions keep their values

Done; the suffixes appear only when needed.

No displacement — stretch cancelled

Target point equals base point.

Fillet and Chamfer

Click a line, circle or arc · Click the 2nd element (line/circle/arc)... · Click the 2nd element (line/circle/arc)

Step messages of Fillet; the second version appears when the second click hit no element.

Move the mouse → radius/sector · click = place · R+Enter = fixed radius

Both elements chosen; determine radius and sector.

No tangent arc possible

With this radius and in this sector no arc touches both elements — e.g. with parallel lines or a radius larger than the circle. Remedy: choose another radius or sector.

Click the 1st line (on the side to keep) · Chamfer: click the 2nd line (on the side to keep) · Click the 2nd line

Step messages of Chamfer; the first one also appears when the click hit no line.

Chamfer: enter the values + Enter, or click to confirm

Both lines chosen; the chamfer field is open.

Chamfer created

Status bar after “✓ OK” or Enter in the chamfer field. The chamfer line inherits colour and screen width from the line clicked first. With the option “do not trim lines” the two original lines are kept unchanged.

The chamfer cannot be calculated (lines parallel or invalid values)

Status bar when the two lines have no intersection (parallel) or the entered values do not allow the chamfer cut — for instance a distance longer than the line. Remedy: enter smaller values or choose other lines.

Grips

Grip active (1 point) — click to place, Escape to cancel / Grip active (n points) — click to place, Escape to cancel

Status bar as soon as a point grip of a selected element is grabbed. The second wording gives the number of points that coincide at that spot: they are moved together so that a contour does not tear open. Grips of annotations (text, remark, leader) always move only themselves. Esc puts the grip back.

Extend/shorten line: drag, or type an amount (±) + Enter — Esc cancels

Status bar at the length grip of a selected line. The grip sits at one end; the other stays fixed. A typed amount acts as a change, not as a new total length: “10” extends by 10 mm, “-10” shortens by 10 mm.

Extend/shorten arc: drag, or type an amount (±) + Enter — [W] angle/length, Esc cancels

The same function on an arc. In addition W switches whether the typed amount counts as an angle in degrees or as an arc length in millimetres.

Extend/shorten applied / Extend cancelled

Status bar after releasing or after Esc. The cancel takes the change back through an undo step; if nothing was dragged, the drawing stays unchanged.

Explode

Exploded: n element(s) → k lines

Explode is done.

No rectangle, polyline or spline at the click point

The click hit nothing explodable. Ellipses and block instances are explodable as well, even though the message does not mention them (program version v3.0.24).

Nothing to explode — select a rectangle, polyline, spline or ellipse

The selection contains only lines, circles or arcs.

Dimension chain dissolved — n individual dimensions

A selected dimension chain was broken into single dimensions.

Weld

Please enter a tolerance greater than 0

The dialog Weld — tolerance contains 0 or nothing.

n weld(s) created, m point(s) joined — k shifted

Weld is done; — k shifted only if endpoints were moved. Details in the result dialog.

No weldable endpoints found · No weldable endpoints found — endpoints too far apart

The selection has no endpoints (circles, ellipses) or they all lie farther apart than the tolerance.

No weld within the tolerance (t mm)

There are endpoints, but no two within the tolerance. Remedy: increase the tolerance — with an eye on the shift.

n weld point(s) released · No welds on the selection

Result of Unweld.

Weld markers shown · Weld markers hidden

The marker switch was toggled.

Clipboard

n copied

After Ctrl + C (clipboard).

Copied — click the base point (with snap) · ESC = without, paste centered

After Ctrl + C (Clipboard); the next click sets the base point.

Base point set — Ctrl+V pastes at the cursor (angle/factor/mirror adjustable) · Base point selection cancelled — Ctrl+V pastes centered

Base point set or skipped with right-click.

Standard part "Kopie": a click places it (multiple times possible) · R=rotate · H/V=mirror · +/−=scale · ESC/right-click finishes

Ctrl + V has started placing; the copy is named Kopie.

Placement finished — n standard part(s) inserted

Pasting finished; the message speaks of standard part because placing uses the same path (program version v3.0.24).

Element(s) pasted.

The package is in the drawing. The wording is deliberately uniform — it applies to elements, dimensions, hatches and constraints alike, without a list per object type.

n object(s) cut — Ctrl+V pastes at the cursor, Ctrl+Z restores

After Ctrl + X (Cut). Objects are counted, that is, dimensions and hatches cut without an element as well.

Nothing copied

Ctrl + C, Ctrl + X or Copy group found nothing that can be copied. If the addition · n dimension(s) without reference skipped appears, the selection consisted of dimensions that cannot travel without their elements (radius, diameter and arc dimensions, chain links, tolerance frames, datums). Remedy: select the dimensioned elements as well, or use free point and angle dimensions — those can be copied on their own (Clipboard). When cutting, nothing is deleted in this case either.

Cut: please select elements first (dimensions and hatches travel with their elements)

Ctrl + X without a selection.
