Feature control frame

Purpose#

Places a feature control frame per DIN EN ISO 1101: characteristic symbol, tolerance zone, tolerance value, modifier and up to three datums, optionally in up to three rows and with a leader arrow to an element. Connections: Feature control frames and datum features.

Access#

• Ribbon: group Annotate, list of the split button Dimension, entry Feature frame Feature control frame (7 in the picture at Dimension).
• Classic toolbar: list of the split button Dimension, entry Feature control frame.
• Command search : type Feature control frame.

On start the Feature control frame dialog opens.

Procedure#

1. In the dialog choose characteristic, tolerance zone, value, modifier and datums; add further rows with + if needed. Place closes the dialog.
2. With with arrow (factory on): click the arrow target on the element (Feature control frame: click arrow target on the element…). The direction of the element sets the right-angled departure of the leader; the frame is bound to the element.
3. Click the position of the frame (Feature control frame: click position (ESC cancels)). Without arrow the frame hangs at the pointer immediately and is placed with one click.
4. The tool stays active with the same content: Tolerance frame placed — click the next arrow target (ESC ends) or … click the next position. Esc ends.

Options#

All fields are explained in the dialog. The dialog itself enforces the ISO 1101 rules: form tolerances (straightness, flatness, roundness, cylindricity) are specified without a datum — the datum fields are disabled; orientation, location and run-out tolerances require a datum — if it is missing, the hint appears in the dialog; profile tolerances allow both. If there are no datum features yet, the dialog says so.

Double-click on a placed frame opens the dialog Edit feature control frame; Apply writes the change (Feature control frame changed). The frame lies on the system layer Dimensions, takes the text height of the dimensioning and moves with the bound element.

The command has no shortcut key.
