How do I move dimension line and text?

Move the dimension line#

Grab the dimension line (not the number) and drag it. For element dimensions the offset from the element changes, for point-to-point dimensions the position of the dimension line; the extension lines grow along. A label at the pointer shows the value. For a dimension chain the whole chain follows.

You can also enter the offset as a number: in the Properties panel or in the attribute panel in the Offset field (element dimensions only).

Move the dimension text#

Grab the text and drag it along the dimension line. With Snap dimensions (smart guides) it snaps to the middle; hold Ctrl to position freely. For diameter and radius dimensions the text slides on the dimension line, for angular dimensions on the dimension arc.

Reposition a reference point of a point-to-point dimension#

Click the dimension: small squares appear at both reference points. Drag a square with active snap to the new point (Reposition dimension point (with snap) — release to place). The dimension binds itself there anew and follows this point from now on.

Change the Z level#

PgUp and PgDn raise or lower the selected dimensions by one Z level; the four stacking buttons are also in the Properties panel. If all dimensions are to go to the very back, use Dimensions to back.
