New layer

Purpose#

Creates a new layer and makes it the active layer, so that the next elements land on it.

Access#

• “Layers” section in the panel on the right: button “＋ New” (1).
• Command search : “Neuer Layer”, “layer” (the entry is labelled in German).
• There is no button in the ribbon or the classic toolbar; layers are managed in the panel.

Procedure#

1. Click “＋ New”. The layer appears at the end of the list as “Layer n” (n = next free number) and is active at once (status bar “New layer created”).
2. Colour: the next one from a palette of twelve colours (by number); line type solid; width 1.5 on screen, 0.25 mm in print; visible, not locked.
3. To rename and set it up, click the row a second time or choose “✎ Edit” — “Edit Layer” dialog.

Options#

• A layer with the properties of an existing one is created via Copy layer contents with the target “New layer (copy of …)” — useful even without contents if you only want colour, line type and widths (empty the layer first).
• Via the drop-down of the header bar or the “Properties” panel elements move to the new layer afterwards (Layers).
