Messages about settings, grid and snap

Messages appear in the status bar at the bottom or as a confirmation prompt of the browser. The texts are given here as the program shows them; placeholders such as n or name stand for the respective value.

Settings dialog#

Settings applied#

Status bar after Apply. All fields are saved; the dialog stays open and shows the applied (possibly limited) values. No remedy needed.

Settings loaded / No saved settings#

Status bar after Load locally. The second version appears when the browser holds no key cad2d_settings yet — for instance after Factory defaults or in a new browser profile. Remedy: Apply or Save locally once.

Settings exported as a file#

Status bar after Export (JSON); the file cad2d_settings_YYYY-MM-DD.json is in the browser's download folder.

Settings imported from "file"#

Status bar after Import (JSON): the file was applied and saved, the dialog shows the new state.

Import error: reason / Error: reason#

Status bar when the chosen file is not readable JSON. Remedy: choose only files created with Export (JSON); check a file edited by hand for brackets and quotation marks.

Reset all settings to factory defaults?#

Browser prompt after Factory defaults. OK resets — not undoable; Cancel leaves everything as is. Remedy beforehand: Export (JSON) if you want to return later.

Settings reset to factory defaults#

Status bar after the reset. Ribbon, day mode, grid 10 mm, snap automatic and all defaults are back to factory; your own dimension styles and the drawing remain.

Panel order reset to factory default#

Status bar after Panel order. The sections on the right are back in factory order, torn-off sections have returned. Related: Panel section order saved (after dragging a section), Section torn off — «⇥ or dragging it onto the panel brings it back», Section put back into the panel.

Line type settings applied — the pattern values apply to new objects#

Status bar after Apply in the Line types dialog. Existing objects keep their values; Apply to selection transfers them to selected sealing-layer objects.

Language and layout#

Sprache: Deutsch / Language: English#

Status bar after switching in the list Sprache / Language. All labels are switched and the choice is saved.

Ribbon view — F2 (or Ctrl+Shift+R) switches back / Classic toolbar — F2 (or Ctrl+Shift+R) switches to the ribbon#

Status bar after switching to the ribbon; the counterpart reads Classic toolbar — F2 (or Ctrl+Shift+R) switches to the ribbon. The choice is saved.

Gizmo ON / Gizmo OFF / Gizmo ON (Ctrl+Shift+G) / Gizmo OFF (Ctrl+Shift+G)#

Status bar after Ctrl + Shift + G or the command Gizmo on / off. The state applies for the session. Further gizmo messages (Gizmo window: position pinned, Gizmo window follows the selected element again, Gizmo hidden — Ctrl+Shift+G to show it again) concern the value window.

Redrawn — all running functions cancelled#

Status bar after F5 or Redraw. A started command is ended, the display rebuilt; the geometry is unchanged.

Online help opened: address#

Status bar after the help button ; the help is in a new tab. If no tab appears, the browser blocks pop-ups for this page. Remedy: allow pop-ups for the program address.

Gizmo#

Messages of the gizmo window that appears after a selection (gizmo).

Gizmo hidden — Ctrl+Shift+G to show it again#

Status bar after the close cross of the gizmo window. The window stays off until it is switched on again with Ctrl + Shift + G or through the “Settings” dialog.

Gizmo window: position pinned / Gizmo window follows the selected element again#

Status bar after the pin in the title row. Pinned, the window stays put even when the selection changes; otherwise it moves to the element currently selected. The state is remembered locally in the browser.

Gizmo panel follows again#

Status bar after a double-click on the drag handle of the title row: a manually set window position is released.

X/U axis: drag the mouse or enter a parallel distance + Enter · Y/V axis: drag the mouse or enter a parallel distance + Enter#

Status bar as soon as one of the two axis arrows is grabbed. The selection moves along that axis only; instead of dragging you can type the distance. “X/U” and “Y/V” name the world axis first, then the gizmo axis — both coincide as long as the gizmo sits on the world axes.

Gizmo Δ — U: u V: v (values stay editable)#

Status bar after an axis drag: the numbers are the displacement applied so far in gizmo direction. They stay in the fields and can be overwritten afterwards.

Gizmo — pivot at (x, y) / Gizmo — ΔU: u ΔV: v#

Status bar after Enter in the fields of the gizmo window. If the absolute X/Y fields were changed, the program reports the new pivot; if ΔU/ΔV were typed, the displacement carried out.

Gizmo orientation: a°#

Status bar after an entry in the “G∠” field. The axes are fixed at that angle; the U/V values applied so far are reset because they referred to the old axes.

Gizmo aligned to the line — U = parallel to the line / Gizmo on world axes#

Status bar after “Align” and the click on a line. If no line was hit, the gizmo returns to the world axes.

Gizmo: world axes, auto pivot#

Status bar after “Reset”: angle, alignment line, point target, custom pivot and both mirrorings fall back to their initial state.

Gizmo mirrored: U↺ V↺ / Gizmo mirrored: off#

Status bar after the ⇄ and ⇅ switches. Only the axis direction of the gizmo is mirrored, not the geometry — a positive value then acts the other way round. When both axes are normal again, the message ends in “off”.

Click a line to align · ESC = cancel#

Status bar after “Align”: the next click chooses the line the U axis is aligned to. During a pick the object snap always applies.

Click a point for the new pivot · ESC = cancel#

Status bar after “Pivot”: the next click sets the rotation point of the gizmo.

Click an endpoint to edit · ESC = cancel#

Status bar after “Point”: the next click chooses the endpoint that the axes will move on its own.

Gizmo pick cancelled#

Gizmo placed on the endpoint — the axes move only this point / Point mode ended#

Status bar after “Point” and the click on an endpoint: the axes then move only that single point while the rest of the element stays put. Clicking “Point” again ends the mode.

Both endpoints are welded — there is no free end that could move. Release one end first (unweld), then it will work.#

Notice right above the field when a length or angle is typed for a line whose two endpoints are both welded. Either would only be possible by tearing a weld open, so the program refuses it. Moving through ΔU/ΔV stays allowed — there the whole line travels. Remedy: release one end with unweld.

Grid#

Grid shown / Grid hidden — grid snap inactive#

Status bar after the “GRID” switch. If the snap mode is set to “Grid”, a suffix is appended when hiding: “— grid snap inactive (can be changed in the snap settings)” or “— grid snap still works (snap setting)”, depending on whether the grid snap should keep working with the grid hidden (snap settings).

Status bar after GRID. When hiding, if the snap mode Grid is active, the suffix — grid snap still active (snap setting) or — grid snap inactive (changeable in the snap settings) follows. Remedy: tick Grid snap even when the grid is hidden.

Grid manual: n mm#

Status bar after an entry in the field Size: Dyn. is thereby switched off, the size stays fixed while zooming. Remedy if that was not intended: tick Dyn. again.

Grid: dynamic / Grid: manual (n mm)#

Status bar after the checkbox Dyn.. Dynamic picks the level (1, 5, 10, 50, 100 mm) itself while zooming.

Grid contrast: n %#

Status bar while dragging the contrast slider (10–100 %).

Snap, tracking and ortho#

Snap settings saved · auto-weld: off#

Status bar after OK in the Auto Snap Settings dialog. The suffix names the tolerance (0.01 mm), coupled to the snap or off.

Snap mode: name#

Status bar at every change of the snap mode (keys Q, G, F, E, M, S, Z, L, P or tool window).

Snap mode → automatic (geometry tool)#

Status bar when calling a geometry tool if another snap was chosen before and the checkbox Snap to automatic for geometry tools is set. Remedy if the snap should stay: remove the checkbox in the Settings dialog.

Ortho mode ON / Ortho mode OFF#

Status bar after ORTHO.

Track point captured (n active) — hovering again removes it / Temporary track point set (n active) — hovering again removes it#

Status bar as soon as a track point has been captured. The bracket says how many track points are currently valid — at most three; a fourth one drops the oldest. The second wording reports a temporary track point that a drawing step set by itself.

Track point removed (n active)#

Status bar when you hover again over an already captured track point — it is deleted. All track points at once are dropped with Esc or by switching tracking off.

Object snap tracking ON — briefly touch a snap point to capture it as a track point / Object snap tracking OFF#

Status bar after TRACK. Switching off clears captured track points; related: Track point removed (n active).

DXF profiles#

No profile active#

Status bar for Duplicate, Rename, Delete or Save profile file… while — no profile (1:1) — is chosen. Remedy: choose a profile or create one with New.

Name already taken#

Status bar for Rename to an existing name. Remedy: choose another name.

Delete profile "name"?#

Browser prompt before deleting; afterwards no profile applies.

n layers adopted from the DXF / No layer table found in the DXF / Name of the new profile: / New name:#

Status bar after Learn from a DXF file…. The second version: the file contains no LAYER section (for instance a minimal export DXF). Remedy: learn from a complete DXF file or create the rows by hand.

Profile saved: file / Profile downloaded: file / Profile loaded: file#

Status bar after Save profile file… (depending on the browser with a file dialog or as a download) and after Load profile file….

Profile file invalid (not JSON) / The file is not a valid DXF profile#

Status bar after Load profile file…. Remedy: choose only files created with Save profile file….

Drawing info and info box#

Drawing info applied · no.#

Status bar after OK in the Drawing info dialog; the number follows if filled in. The drawing counts as changed.

Disclaimer confirmed — the info box is no longer shown automatically at startup / The info box will be shown again at program start#

Status bar after the checkbox Disclaimer understood in the info box.

Users worldwide: n · total launches: n · since date / Global counter not reachable#

Tooltip at the world counter 🌍 of the status bar. The second version: the server was not reachable at start (offline or local installation) — the drawing is not affected.

Status bar at program start with the number of your own start. The version number quoted is fixed in the program and does not match the current version (as of v3.0.23); the valid version is shown in the gear window and the info box.
