Move layer contents

Purpose#

Moves the entire contents of a layer — elements, hatches, dimensions and the contents of all block definitions — to another layer. This merges two layers or empties a layer before deleting it.

Access#

• “Edit Layer” dialog: button “⇢ Move contents …” (9) — for the layer being edited.
• Command search : “Layer-Inhalt verschieben”, “merge” (the entry is labelled in German).

Procedure#

1. The dialog names layer and contents: “Move contents of layer "…" (no. n). It holds: 10 element(s), 2 hatch(es)” — or “The layer contains no objects.”.
2. To layer (2): the target from all other layers; locked ones carry 🔒, hidden ones 👁‍🗨. Default is the active layer.
3. Appearance (3, 4): “Keep colour and line width of the objects” leaves the objects looking as before — until the next “OK” in the target's layer editor; “Take colour, line width and line type from the target layer” adapts them at once and removes own line styles.
4. Delete the empty source layer afterwards (5) removes the source layer right away.
5. “OK”. If the source is locked, the program asks “Layer "…" is locked. Move its contents anyway?”, if the target is locked: “Target layer "…" is locked. Move the contents there anyway?”. Status bar: “n object(s) moved from layer "…" to layer "…"” or “… moved — layer "…" deleted”.

The operation is one undo step. It acts in the currently open space (model or sheet); block instances are rebuilt because their definitions are re-assigned too.

Options#

• With only one layer the command reports “No other layer available”.
• The source layer stays if checkbox (5) is empty — empty layers are allowed.
